North Korea Fires Projectile Toward Sea
North Korea launched an unidentified projectile toward the Sea of Japan, also called the East Sea, South Korea’s military said. The Joint Chiefs of Staff detected the launch and is analyzing the projectile’s specifications and range, while no further details were immediately released. The launch follows North Korea’s firing of more than 10 short-range ballistic missiles in August during reduced U.S.-South Korean military exercises. The latest incident comes as current President Donald Trump seeks to revive diplomacy with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and has said he plans to meet him this year.
