G20 Photo Scrapped in Atlanta Over Russian Minister's Presence
Atlanta is hosting the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting Friday and Saturday, chaired by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, as part of the United States’ year holding the group’s rotating presidency. Talks cover freedom of navigation, energy and food security, and supply chains, amid divisions over Russia’s war in Ukraine and disputes involving Iran, Russia and China. Organizers scrapped the traditional group photo after officials, including some from Germany, objected to appearing alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The meeting leads up to the G20 leaders’ summit in Miami in December. Security measures will close or restrict access to Midtown streets near the Loews Atlanta Hotel through Sunday at noon, with detours and traffic disruptions expected; drivers are urged to follow posted signs and use alternate routes.
