Colorado, San Diego State Set for Bill Walton Classic
San Diego State enters its matchup with Colorado favored by analysts to win, with its scoring, rebounding and more balanced early efficiency viewed as an edge over Colorado’s eye-catching but one-game offensive sample. The Aztecs opened with a 102-78 victory over Cal State Fullerton, led by Latrell Davis’s 25 points and Tae Simmons’s 14 points and 11 rebounds, and dominated the glass 50-28. They also shot well from the free-throw line, though 15 turnovers remain an area to improve as the team integrates nine newcomers. Colorado, meanwhile, routed Abilene Christian after a strong second half, with Jalin Holland scoring a team-high 18 points. The matchup gives San Diego State an opportunity to demonstrate its potential against a Colorado team whose opening-game shooting numbers may be difficult to sustain.
