Tenerife Match Abandoned After De Miguel Dies
CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, 30, died Tuesday after suffering cardiac arrest and neurological complications following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a second-division match. The match was abandoned at 2-2, and Owono was sent off. Spanish police opened a routine investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter, with prosecutors involved as required for deaths considered non-natural. De Miguel’s death prompted tributes from clubs, players and football authorities, as well as postponements and moments of silence at matches. His family thanked supporters and asked for privacy.
