Iranian Strikes Damage 274 Structures Across US Bases

Iranian missile and drone strikes have damaged hundreds of buildings and critical systems at U.S. military sites across the Middle East, with analyses based on satellite imagery documenting attacks at more than two dozen installations. The Pentagon puts military-facility damage at least at $5 billion, while some estimates reach $15 billion; rebuilding costs are not included in reported totals for the war’s operational expenses. The attacks initially targeted aircraft facilities and early-warning, radar, communications and air-defense systems, and later increasingly struck buildings housing U.S. troops. A July attack on Jordan’s Muwaffaq Salti Air Base killed three U.S. service members and damaged troop housing, underscoring the threat to personnel. The damage has prompted evacuations and the movement of U.S. assets, while officials weigh whether to rebuild facilities as they were and how allies might help pay for repairs. A Defense Department inspector general report separately confirmed extensive damage to U.S. diplomatic sites, estimated at about $184 million, and noted that military reconstruction costs remain undetermined.
