QatarEnergy Signs Up-to-4-MTPA US LNG Deal
QatarEnergy has agreed to buy up to 4 million metric tons of U.S. LNG annually from Cheniere Energy, with deliveries expected to begin in 2031 from facilities in Louisiana and Texas. The long-term agreement comes as Iranian strikes damaged Qatari export infrastructure and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz have constrained supplies, prompting QatarEnergy to seek replacement volumes for customers. The company is also in discussions with Woodside Energy about buying as much as 3 million metric tons a year from its Louisiana LNG project under a potential 15-to-20-year deal, and is negotiating with Venture Global. The agreements would expand QatarEnergy’s access to supplies outside the Gulf as it works to address continuing disruption and uncertainty around repairs to its domestic export capacity.
