Oman Rescues 25 From Attacked Ship Off Musandam

On 30 October 2026 Oman's Royal Navy, working with the Maritime Security Center, evacuated 25 crew members from the Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel RITI (also rendered RIT1), described by Marine Traffic as a crude oil tanker, after it was targeted and a fire broke out about 1.6 nautical miles off Musandam. The crew received medical care; Oman gave no injury details, did not identify attackers or weapons, and did not say whether the fire was extinguished or how badly the ship was damaged. The same day Iran's Revolutionary Guards said two tankers in the eastern and western Strait of Hormuz that had switched off navigation systems and tried an unauthorised route with what it called US military support were halted south of the strait after incidents, and separately that a third tanker carrying two million barrels stopped after a naval-mine explosion—the third to explode and catch fire that day on an unauthorised route, per IRGC. A day earlier UKMTO reported a small boat attaching two explosive devices to a tanker hull 25 nautical miles northeast of Khasab, sparking an engine-room fire and disabling the vessel. Who attacked the RITI and the full damage remain undisclosed.

Glad the Panamanian crew survived but the lack of details on the attackers is worrying.
Attacks on ships near Musandam need a stronger response to protect those sea lanes.
It's reassuring that Oman's navy got all 25 crew off the tanker before things got worse.
