Israeli Strikes Kill at Least 16 in Lebanon

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon killed at least 16 people—seven on Sunday and between nine and 11 in subsequent strikes near Kfar Rumman—according to Lebanese authorities and media reports. Children and medical workers were among those killed, dozens were wounded, and others may remain trapped under rubble. The attacks damaged or destroyed residential buildings, government offices and an out-of-service hospital in Kfar Rumman, Arab Salim, Nabatieh and Deir al-Zahrani. Israel said it was retaliating for Hezbollah drones launched at troops in a security zone and targeted Hezbollah weapons depots, infrastructure and a command center allegedly operating in a former hospital; Hezbollah did not immediately comment. The escalation continued despite a U.S.-brokered June ceasefire and Israel-Lebanon framework agreement, with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun accusing Israel of violating the truce and urging Washington and the international community to intervene.
