LGBTQ+ Lawmakers Win Reelection Across States
Voters returned incumbents to office in several 2026 races: Kansas Democrat Sharice Davids won a fifth term in Congress, Delaware Democrat Claire Snyder-Hall won a second term in the state House, and nonbinary Delaware state Rep. DeShanna Neal was reelected unopposed. Davids’ victory preserves the representation of one of the first Native American women elected to Congress and Kansas’ first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress; she campaigned on health care, economic opportunity and LGBTQ+ equality. Snyder-Hall, an out lesbian and former democracy advocate, emphasized LGBTQ+ rights, democratic institutions, affordable housing, health care and transportation. Neal, Delaware’s first nonbinary elected official, has championed LGBTQ+ and transgender rights alongside housing, education and other progressive priorities. In Massachusetts, Democrat Richard Neal won a 20th term representing the state’s 1st District and is expected to chair the House Ways and Means Committee if Democrats take control of the chamber.
