Nevada Approves Abortion-Rights Amendment
Nevada voters approved a constitutional amendment protecting abortion access until fetal viability, generally around 24 weeks, with exceptions afterward to protect a pregnant person’s life or health; passage for a second time completed the state’s amendment process. The vote came amid a closely watched midterm, including a tight governor’s race between Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo and Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford, as well as competitive congressional and local contests. Robust early and mail voting meant much of the vote was cast before Election Day, though same-day turnout could still influence close races. The measure adds Nevada to a broader wave of state ballot initiatives protecting reproductive rights since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
