Mississippi Senate Race Uncalled, Colom Leads by 28
Two close Senate races are delaying the final picture of the new Congress. In Mississippi, Democrat Scott Colom led Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith by roughly 2,000 votes with most ballots counted, as officials worked through outstanding affidavit and absentee ballots. The count has drawn scrutiny over a voter-roll cleanup that placed more than 230,000 people on inactive status and concerns about using Experian data to verify addresses. Mississippi has no automatic or candidate-requested recount, though candidates can examine ballot materials and pursue a legal challenge; counties have until Nov. 13 to certify results. In Alaska, Democrat Mary Peltola led Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan by about 600 votes with roughly 77% counted, and outstanding remote-area and military ballots could delay the count; ranked-choice tabulation may follow if no candidate exceeds 50%.
