Plummer Wins Harris County Judge Race, Makes History
Democrat Letitia Plummer defeated Republican Orlando Sanchez to become Harris County’s next judge, winning about 62% of the vote in unofficial results. She is the first African American and first Muslim elected to the position, and will lead the Commissioners Court, which oversees the county budget, infrastructure, public health and flood control. Plummer campaigned on improving cooperation among commissioners and building on the county’s existing services, while Sanchez emphasized audits, lower property taxes, cost-cutting, infrastructure and public safety.
