Ossoff Wins Reelection, Democrats Retain Georgia Seat
Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff won reelection in Georgia on Tuesday, Nov. 3, defeating Republican Rep. Mike Collins, according to projections from NBC News and Decision Desk HQ. The hold came in a state Donald Trump carried by 2 points in 2024. Republicans entered the night with a 53-47 Senate majority; Democrats needed a net gain of four seats, with an easiest path that included holding Georgia and Michigan, flipping Maine and North Carolina, and taking at least two more Trump-won states. Ossoff raised $126 million more than Collins, who had $18 million in outside spending after a three-way primary and runoff. Trump endorsed Collins over Derek Dooley, backed by Gov. Brian Kemp. Debates centered on the economy and prices. Collins said, “That Bidenomics, that Green New Deal my opponent voted for, that’s where this inflation came from,” and defended tariffs with “Savannah Port and Brunswick Port have been on my mind.” Ossoff tied Collins to Trump, pressed him on tariffs and the Iran war, and said of staff and family ties, “You’ve hired half the Third Reich.” Collins replied of his son-in-law’s posts, “I don’t care where the source is, and I tell him that,” and cited Reid Hoffman donations to a pro-Ossoff super PAC; Ossoff said he would serve a full second term amid 2028 speculation.
