Missouri voters reject Trump-backed congressional map 62%-38%
Missouri voters rejected Proposition A by 62% to 38%, blocking a Republican-drawn congressional map that sought to split Kansas City and improve the GOP’s chances of unseating Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. The decision leaves the state’s 2022 congressional map in place for future elections; that map was used in Tuesday’s general election, and Cleaver won reelection. The 2025 map had been used in the August primary, despite a lengthy legal battle in which state and federal courts prevented it from being used in the general election. The result is a setback for Republicans and President Donald Trump’s broader push for mid-decade redistricting, though Missouri lawmakers could try to redraw the map again, potentially prompting another referendum.
