Democrats projected winners in Wisconsin, Colorado governor races

Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley is projected to win Wisconsin’s governor’s race after a turbulent campaign in which he briefly withdrew, re-entered, and narrowly defeated state Rep. Francesca Hong in the Democratic primary. His victory would make him Wisconsin’s first Black governor. In Colorado, Democrat Phil Weiser decisively defeated Republican Victor Marx to succeed term-limited Gov. Jared Polis, extending the state’s long run of Democratic governors. Weiser, the state’s attorney general and a former law school dean, beat U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet in the Democratic primary before entering the general election as the clear favorite. Marx campaigned as an outsider, but his unconventional approach and refusal to participate in some standard campaign events did not overcome Weiser’s lead.
