Early Returns Show San Francisco Voters Rejecting Highway Reopening Measure
Early San Francisco returns showed voters rejecting Proposition G, which would have reopened the Upper Great Highway to cars on weekdays, leaving Sunset Dunes park in place; the result remained preliminary as ballots were counted. In Rancho Palos Verdes, Measure RS, which would raise the hotel tax from 10% to 13% to fund city services and disaster response, had nearly 76% support in initial returns. Fresno County voters faced Measure S, a proposed half-cent sales tax that would replace Measure C and fund transportation projects for 30 years, but results were not provided. Bay Area voters also weighed regional and San Francisco transit taxes as BART, Muni and Caltrain warned that rejection could trigger major service cuts beginning in 2027, with BART and Caltrain raising the possibility of ending service. In Belmont County, unofficial results showed strong support for several senior services, 911, library and fire levies, while a Martins Ferry school levy was trailing and some local issues remained close.
