LSU Blanks No. 16 Mississippi State 31-0

No. 22 LSU blanked No. 16 Mississippi State 31-0 as Sam Leavitt completed 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions, ending a pick-in-every-game streak after entering with the FBS lead of eight interceptions. LSU improved to 5-2 (2-2 SEC); Mississippi State fell to 4-2 (2-2 SEC). Mississippi State started Billy Puckett with Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell out with lower-leg injuries; Puckett went 16 of 26 for 121 yards, one interception and 36 rush yards. LSU touchdowns were Leavitt passes of 10 yards to Eugene Wilson, 27 and 17 to Jackson Harris, and 6 to Malik Elzy after a Ty Benefield interception set up the second score. Leavitt said it was "one of my cleaner days in my career. Maybe the cleanest." Lane Kiffin said Leavitt "really played well for someone who was not 100% in moving around" and they talked about "trusting the receivers." Jeff Lebby said Puckett "was the guy that put himself in the best position to be the guy" but "it's me needing to put them in better situations." Contested: none found. Mississippi State hosts Oklahoma next; LSU is at Auburn.

No right coverage yet — a bubble gap.
LSU's defense deserves credit for holding a ranked team to zero points in a clean shutout.
Mississippi State's missing players left too many gaps for their offense to move the ball at all.
Leavitt's four touchdowns without a pick even on a bad hamstring is exactly what LSU needed from him.
