No. 1 Miami Holds Off UNC, Wins 38-35

No. 1 Miami remained unbeaten with a 38-35 win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill after the Tar Heels nearly pulled off an upset. Mark Fletcher Jr. scored on a fourth-down, 2-yard run late, and a sack-fumble recovery by Justin Scott stopped UNC’s next drive before Darian Mensah connected with Malachi Toney to extend Miami’s lead. Mensah threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns, while UNC quarterback Billy Edwards Jr. had a season-high 341 passing yards and four touchdowns. North Carolina cut the lead to three, but penalties nullified two apparent recoveries of the ensuing onside kick, allowing Miami to secure the ball and run out the clock. Miami improved to 8-0 ahead of a road game against Notre Dame, while UNC fell to 4-4 and 0-12 against No. 1-ranked teams.
