Texas Sack Leader Colin Simmons Leaves Florida Game Injured
Colin Simmons went down with an apparent right leg injury early in the fourth quarter against Florida with the game tied 17-17. He was helped off the field, taken to the medical tent, and carted off for further evaluation; he did not return. He had recorded a sack in the game, lifting his season total to 10.5 after entering as the FBS leader at 9.5. Florida won 27-24. Yahoo Sports, from a Sporting News account, ranks Texas 7th and calls the defeat the Longhorns' first loss of the season after they had escaped defeat three times earlier; USA Today calls it Texas's second loss. SSBCrack News reports Simmons had eight tackles and four tackles for loss before exiting, is a 20-year-old in a three-year tenure at Texas, and cites career totals of 116 tackles and 31.5 sacks. No diagnosis appeared in the coverage. USA Today says further word may come from coach Steve Sarkisian and that Texas hosts Ole Miss on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET; his status for that game was not reported.
