Miami Tops First 2026 CFP Rankings

Miami was named No. 1 in the College Football Playoff committee’s first rankings of the 2026 season, the first time the Hurricanes have topped a CFP ranking. The undefeated Hurricanes, last season’s national runner-up, are followed by Georgia, Utah and Indiana. Alabama ranked No. 5, eight places above Tennessee, despite losing to the Volunteers 26-10; Boise State, ranked No. 25, would receive the playoff’s 12th seed as the highest-ranked Group of Six team. Miami’s next major test is a road game against No. 11 Notre Dame. The committee will release weekly rankings through the regular season and set the final field after conference championship games.
