Wallace’s 135 Yards Lift Penn State Past Purdue
Cam Wallace rushed for a career-high 135 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries as Penn State beat Purdue 31-17, ending a four-game losing streak and earning its first Big Ten win under coach Matt Campbell. The junior’s breakout came after standout practices during the bye week earned him a bigger role in a struggling rushing attack; he responded with forceful runs, six missed tackles forced and 107 yards after contact. Wallace’s performance was especially meaningful after he broke both ankles as a freshman and spent much of the following seasons recovering and waiting for an opportunity. Teammates and coaches praised his persistence and were moved by his emotional reaction to the win. Penn State totaled 269 rushing yards and held Purdue to 33 on the ground.
