Maryland Fires Mike Locksley, Opens Coaching Search

Maryland has parted ways with Mike Locksley after a five-game losing streak left the Terrapins 2-5, with the school describing the change as a mutual decision and naming Aazaar Abdul-Rahim interim head coach. Locksley leaves after back-to-back 4-8 seasons and a 39-54 overall record at Maryland; the school faces a national search and a roster that could require rebuilding, while Locksley is reportedly owed nearly $10 million. ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt said the decision reflected the team’s results, despite Locksley’s strong local ties and past contributions to the program. Potential candidates mentioned include Wake Forest’s Jake Dickert, New Mexico’s Jason Eck and Indiana coordinators Bryant Haines and Mike Shanahan.
