UCLA shuts out Nevada 27-0, reaches 8-0

No. 7 UCLA improved to 8-0 with a 27-0 win over Nevada, earning its first Rose Bowl shutout since 2007 and opening the season with eight straight victories for the first time since 2005. The Bruins’ defense dominated, intercepting Nevada four times, including three times in the first quarter, and limiting the Wolf Pack to 176 yards. UCLA’s offense started slowly but got touchdowns from quarterback Ty Dieffenbach before and after halftime; the team’s run game has been less productive since starter Nico Iamaleava was injured. Coach Bob Chesney praised the win while emphasizing that the team still has work to do, after earlier games exposed mistakes in execution and ball security.
