NC State Fires Dave Doeren After 14 Seasons

NC State fired head football coach Dave Doeren after 14 seasons, one day after a 31-28 loss at Stanford left the Wolfpack 3-4 overall and 1-3 in ACC play. Doeren leaves as the program’s winningest coach with a 98-74 record, 10 winning seasons and 11 bowl appearances, but he never won an ACC title. Running backs coach and special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel will lead the team for the rest of the season as NC State searches for a permanent successor. Former Wolfpack quarterback Philip Rivers has been mentioned as a potential candidate, but no appointment has been made.
