Over 5,000 Players Enter Basketball Transfer Portal
As the 2026–27 college basketball season approaches, programs are using the transfer portal to rebuild amid extensive roster turnover. In Conference USA, Florida International expects transfer guard Tijan Saine Jr.—a preseason all-conference selection who averaged 17.5 points and 4.3 assists at Weber State—to help replace its departing leading scorer. The women’s season opens in Rome, with USC star JuJu Watkins’ return from an ACL injury among the biggest storylines; defending champion UCLA and UConn are also prominent title contenders, and the NCAA tournament has expanded to 76 teams. The transfer portal lists athletes who have announced or completed their intent to transfer, and schools generally have two business days to enter a notified athlete’s name, after which other coaches may contact them.
