Rookie Lendeborg scores 31 as Warriors rout Nuggets for first win
Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg has emerged as a major contributor for Golden State, averaging 18.7 points and 8.3 rebounds through the Warriors’ first three games while taking on added offensive responsibility amid injuries. His 26-point performance against Phoenix drew a comparison from Stephen Curry to Jimmy Butler’s ability to create chances, and coach Steve Kerr has said Lendeborg will get more opportunities as a pick-and-roll ball-handler. Kerr has praised the rookie’s confidence and versatility but said his defensive awareness and shot selection need work, while also emphasizing that the short-handed team must improve its execution and limit turnovers. Lendeborg followed his strong start with 31 points and 12 rebounds in Golden State’s 134-114 win over Denver, its first victory of the season; the Warriors also shot 22-for-44 from three and pulled away after halftime.
