The Philadelphia 76ers beat the New York Knicks 106-100 at Madison Square Garden in the season opener after New York’s championship ring and banner ceremony. Tyrese Maxey led with 28 points. Jaylen Brown had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and LeBron James had 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists in 33:46 in their Sixers debuts. Joel Embiid added 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Jalen Brunson scored 21 on 6-of-19 shooting for New York, with Karl-Anthony Towns at 19 points and 12 rebounds. OG Anunoby had 10 points on 3-of-12 (team-worst minus-20) and Mikal Bridges 4 on 2-of-8. The Knicks led by four at halftime before an 11-0 Philadelphia run closed the third. Pre-game, early-1970s Knicks players presented rings, Walt Frazier handed them out, Mike Breen emceed, a video showed fans wrapping themselves in the banner, and the banner rose to the rafters. Brunson spoke with father and coach Rick Brunson after getting his ring. CONTESTED: none found on the score or box-score figures. Left-rated coverage foregrounded fan reaction and LeBron James speaking after the win. Right-rated coverage foregrounded the spoiled ceremony and the James and Brown debuts. One outlet named Anunoby, Bridges and Brunson as most to blame.

“The Knicks raised a banner to the MSG rafters. Then LeBron James and the 76ers brought them back to earth”Right· 5 sources
LeBron already looking comfortable with 14 points and those rebounds and assists in his first game.
Maxey scoring 28 really stepped up and showed why Philly should contend this year.
Tough loss for the Knicks after all the ring ceremony hype, but the 76ers just executed better on the road.
