Lakers Part Ways With Knecht, Set 15-Man Roster
The Los Angeles Lakers waived 2024 first-round pick Dalton Knecht, reducing their roster from 16 guaranteed players to the 15-player limit after failing to find a trade partner. A proposed trade to Charlotte was rescinded after Mark Williams failed his physical, and the Lakers will absorb Knecht’s $4.2 million salary for the coming season. Knecht showed promise as a rookie but lost playing time and struggled to secure a consistent role, while coach JJ Redick said the team’s needs and fit had changed amid increased competition at wing. The Lakers retained Bronny James despite his difficult preseason. Los Angeles is scheduled to open its season against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 21.
