Thunder Beat Spurs 116-104 in Season Opener
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 32 points and Jared McCain added 20 as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the San Antonio Spurs 116-104 in their season opener, a rematch of last season’s Western Conference finals. Oklahoma City led by 21 at halftime and held off a Spurs rally that twice cut the lead to seven. Victor Wembanyama had 12 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks but made one of 13 field-goal attempts, while Stephon Castle led San Antonio with 24 points. A second-quarter scuffle began when Spurs guard De’Aaron Fox threw Chet Holmgren to the floor, prompting teammates to intervene; Fox received a flagrant-one foul, and Wembanyama and Thunder players Jaylin, Jalen and Kenrich Williams were assessed technicals.
