Luka Dončić Scores 52, Lakers Rally Past Jazz
Luka Dončić scored 52 points, with 10 assists and eight rebounds, as the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 132-123 on the road to start the season 3-0. The Lakers erased an 18-point first-quarter deficit with a 45-point second quarter and closed out the game behind Dončić’s late three-pointers and Austin Reaves’ 29 points. Dončić became the first Laker since Elgin Baylor in 1963 to record at least 50 points and 10 assists, and only the third in franchise history; his 50-point game was also the NBA’s first of the season and his 10th career performance at that mark, tying Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Lauri Markkanen scored 28 points and Keyonte George had 24 points and 10 assists for Utah, which fell to 1-2 after surrendering its early lead. Walker Kessler, making his return to Utah as a Laker, had two points and seven rebounds.
