Brewers Place Anderson on IL, Recall Sproat
The Milwaukee Brewers placed reliever Grant Anderson on the 15-day injured list with right biceps inflammation and recalled right-hander Brandon Sproat from Triple-A Nashville. Anderson, who is 3-3 with a 3.36 ERA in 52 appearances, experienced discomfort after throwing a season-high 44 pitches over 2⅔ innings against Cincinnati, though manager Pat Murphy said there was no structural damage. Sproat, who struggled as a starter earlier this season with a 5.27 ERA, will work out of the bullpen and provide multiple-inning relief after Milwaukee’s pitching staff endured a taxing stretch. The Brewers, who improved to 89-56 with a win over the Cubs, are managing workloads carefully as they pursue the National League’s top postseason position.
