Matsui Reportedly Set to Manage Yomiuri Giants
Hideki Matsui, the former Yomiuri Giants slugger and 2009 World Series MVP with the New York Yankees, is set to become the Giants’ next manager, with reports saying he will take over for the 2027 season. Matsui played 10 seasons for Yomiuri before moving to MLB in 2003, and hit 507 home runs across Japan and the United States. He will replace interim manager Hideki Hashigami, who took charge after Shinnosuke Abe stepped down in May; prosecutors later declined to indict Abe over allegations of assaulting his daughter. Yomiuri finished second in the Central League regular season and was eliminated in the first round of the postseason.
