Toronto Blue Jays rookie center fielder Brett Bateman left Monday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles after injuring his right hip while making a sliding catch on rain-softened outfield grass. Although the play initially appeared to involve his knee, the team diagnosed right hip discomfort, and precautionary X-rays were negative for a fracture. Bateman walked off with assistance and was replaced by Myles Straw; his availability for the rest of the season remains uncertain.
