Reds lose Pagán, Suárez and Johnson to free agency
Reds closer Emilio Pagán declined his $10 million player option for 2027 and will enter free agency, leaving Cincinnati to seek a replacement after his strong seasons in the bullpen. The 35-year-old was sidelined by a hamstring injury in 2026 but finished the season in excellent form; the Reds have not ruled out re-signing him. Cincinnati also declined mutual options for third baseman/designated hitter Eugenio Suárez and reliever Pierce Johnson, who will join Pagán as free agents.
