Angels Hand Mariners First Losing Season Since 2019
Ryan Johnson strengthened his case for a spot in the Angels’ 2027 rotation by pitching six strong innings in Los Angeles’ 2-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The 24-year-old right-hander allowed one run and six hits, struck out seven and issued no walks, extending his recent run of effectiveness. Vaughn Grissom’s RBI double gave the Angels an early lead before Josh Lowe’s solo homer in the sixth provided the winning run. Logan Gilbert also worked six innings and struck out seven for Seattle but took the loss after receiving only one run of support. The Mariners have lost three straight and clinched their first losing full season since 2019, leaving their playoff hopes near elimination.
