Yankees, Orioles move Saturday game to Friday doubleheader

The Yankees announced Thursday they were rescheduling Saturday's game against the Orioles into a Friday single-admission doubleheader at Yankee Stadium because a nor'easter is expected to bring severe weather to the Northeast. Game 1 starts at 4:05 p.m. Game 2 begins about 30 minutes after Game 1 ends, not before 7:05 p.m. CC Sabathia's number-retirement ceremony and Monument Park plaque unveiling are planned before Game 1. Saturday tickets will not be honored for the Friday doubleheader but can be exchanged. The Yankees stand at 91-67 and have clinched the first American League wild-card spot after the Tampa Bay Rays (96-62) clinched the AL East with a win at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. The Orioles are 78-81 and have been eliminated from the playoffs. The Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs also set a Friday doubleheader; their series finishes Saturday night, one day before the rest of MLB. The National Weather Service issued a storm warning, wind advisory and coastal flood advisory for the New York City area from Friday night through early Sunday morning. No factual disagreement found among sources. Sunday's Game 162 season finale could also be affected by the storm. Asked about that possibility, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, "We'll see."
