Orioles place Jackson Holliday on injured list for second time this season

The Orioles placed 22-year-old second baseman Jackson Holliday on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation, retroactive to Tuesday, marking his second IL stint of the season after he began the year recovering from right hamate surgery. Holliday had been sidelined for consecutive games after manager Craig Albernaz said he was banged up, and he is eligible to return Sept. 25 before Baltimore’s final series against the Yankees. He was hitting .229 with seven home runs, 30 RBIs and a .640 OPS in 98 games since returning May 19. Jeremiah Jackson is expected to take over at second base, while Jose Barrero was recalled from Triple-A to bolster the infield. The Orioles entered Wednesday 74-78 and three games behind the White Sox for the American League’s final Wild Card spot, making Holliday’s absence a setback in their playoff push.
