Phillies Hire Fatse, Add Cronin as Assistant Hitting Coach

The Philadelphia Phillies named Peter Fatse hitting coach, replacing Kevin Long, and hired Joe Cronin as assistant hitting coach; Edwar Gonzalez will remain in an assistant role. Fatse coached Boston’s hitters from 2022 until April 2026, when he was dismissed amid the Red Sox’s poor start, and most recently served as a hitting consultant with the Tampa Bay Rays. Boston ranked among MLB’s stronger offenses in several categories during much of Fatse’s tenure, while Philadelphia is seeking an offensive reset after a disappointing season that ended with elimination in the National League Wild Card Series, as Don Mattingly begins his first season as the team’s full-time manager.
