Mariners Hire CJ Gillman as Big-League Hitting Coach for 2027
The Seattle Mariners have hired CJ Gillman as their big-league hitting coach for 2027, replacing Kevin Seitzer, while the club continues its search for a manager. Gillman returns after serving as the Washington Nationals’ director of hitting in 2026; he previously coordinated Seattle’s minor-league hitters from 2022 to 2025. The Mariners hope his familiarity with prospects including Cole Young, Colt Emerson, Lázaro Montes and Michael Arroyo, along with his role in improving Washington’s offense, can help address Seattle’s weak 2026 hitting and carry the organization’s player-development approach to the majors.
