Imai Reportedly Opts Into Astros’ $18 Million Option
Houston Astros right-hander Tatsuya Imai will return for the 2027 season after exercising his $18 million player option. In 23 appearances, including 15 starts, he posted a 4.93 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, with 97 strikeouts and 51 walks over 76⅔ innings. He spent the final two months in the bullpen after struggling with command and adjusting to major-league baseball and life in the United States, though he showed flashes of swing-and-miss ability. Imai has another opt-out after 2027, and his role with the Astros next season remains unclear.
