Gasser Leads Brewers Within Win of Title

Milwaukee rookie left-hander Robert Gasser threw six scoreless innings in a 10-1 Game 3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out three. He faced the minimum number of batters, with his two baserunners erased by his defense, and became the first starting pitcher to do so over six or more innings in a World Series game since Curt Schilling in 2001; the last left-hander to achieve the feat was Sandy Koufax in 1965. The performance capped Gasser’s emergence as Milwaukee’s most effective starter this postseason, after he began the season in Triple-A and returned from Tommy John surgery. The victory put the Brewers one win away from their first World Series championship.
