Skubal Lands on Bereavement List, Dodgers Recall Sheehan

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-hander Tarik Skubal on the bereavement list on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026. Manager Dave Roberts said Skubal would be away for a couple of days while handling a personal matter. The move came one day after Skubal started against the San Francisco Giants and earned the win in a 10-4 Dodgers victory, allowing four earned runs on eight hits over five innings with two walks and three strikeouts. Since joining Los Angeles he is 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA in nine starts. Los Angeles recalled right-handers Emmet Sheehan and Kyle Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Seth Halvorsen. Sheehan is 5-8 with a 4.79 ERA in 22 games this season and will provide bulk innings Sunday behind opener Jack Dreyer. Roberts said the club was piecing through the available options and chose what gives Sheehan the best chance. He said Sheehan is part of the postseason conversation but any role would be out of the pen. In his last five outings Sheehan allowed two runs in 29 innings with 39 strikeouts. Skubal’s return timing hinges on the bereavement period and his next turn to start.

Sheehan getting the bulk relief call is the right move but he'll need to eat innings quickly.
Skubal's start looked strong in that win so it's a shame the bereavement list pulls him out even briefly.
