Mets’ Jared Young Hospitalized After Collision

Jared Young fell face-first and remained motionless when Nolan McLean's knee struck his head as both converged on a slow ground ball near first in the sixth inning Thursday night at Citi Field. The Phillies led 1-0 after Justin Crawford hit the ball. McLean broke toward first to cover while Young reached for it. Andy Green and training staff rushed out. Francisco Alvarez appeared to pray; Alec Bohm took a knee near third. Young was placed in a neck brace and gave a thumbs-up as he was carted off. Crawford reached first. Mark Vientos took over at first. McLean stayed, struck out the next batter, allowed one run in six innings, and exited the next inning. The Mets said Jared Young is being taken to hospital for further examination. He has feeling in his extremities. Additional updates will be provided when possible. Young was 0-for-2, batting .266 with 9 home runs and 39 RBIs in 103 games, is 31, and earlier missed about six weeks with a left knee injury.
