White Sox recall Schultz as multi-inning reliever, DFA Urquidy

The Chicago White Sox recalled rookie left-hander Noah Schultz from Triple-A Charlotte before Tuesday’s game against Cleveland and designated veteran right-hander José Urquidy for assignment. Schultz struggled during his first major-league stint, going 3-9 with a 6.06 ERA in 15 appearances, but improved after returning to the minors. Manager Will Venable said Schultz could work as a multi-inning reliever, potentially entering for two or three innings or in high-leverage situations as the White Sox use a more flexible, committee-based pitching strategy. The team also activated right-hander Tyler Davis from the bereavement list and optioned him to Charlotte.
