Cardinals reportedly decline Stanek’s $6M option
The St. Louis Cardinals declined veteran reliever Ryne Stanek’s $6 million club option for 2027, making the 35-year-old a free agent. Stanek recorded a 4.02 ERA in 70 appearances in 2026 and was more effective late in the season, posting a 2.84 ERA over his final 56 outings. The decision avoids a substantial raise for a rebuilding club, though St. Louis loses a dependable bullpen arm and will need to add relievers; the team could still pursue Stanek on a less expensive deal.
