Tigers’ Sears Expected for Spot Start
The Detroit Tigers recalled left-hander Andrew Sears from Triple-A Toledo to start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies, filling in while right-hander Keider Montero is away on the paternity list. The move is expected to be temporary because Jack Flaherty is nearing a return from the injured list next week, though Sears could remain in the rotation mix after another strong opportunity. Sears held Cleveland to one earned run over 5 2/3 innings in his only major-league start this season and has posted a 2.01 ERA in 44 2/3 minor-league innings. Detroit is also giving extended playing time to prospects such as infielder Kevin McGonigle and center fielder Max Clark as the team looks toward the future.
