Mariners Name 36-Year-Old Jason Kanzler Manager
The Seattle Mariners named 36-year-old Jason Kanzler, the Chicago Cubs’ director of player development, as their new manager, making him MLB’s second-youngest manager. He has no previous managerial experience, but has worked in the Houston Astros’ major- and minor-league organizations, including as a big-league coach. Kanzler replaces Dan Wilson after Seattle went 76-86 and missed the playoffs; the Mariners had come within one game of the World Series in 2025. His departure leaves the Cubs needing to replace their farm-system chief as they prepare to focus on pitching development in the minors.
