49ers Acquire Buckner, Bolster Defensive Front
The 49ers acquired defensive tackle DeForest Buckner from the Indianapolis Colts for a 2027 fourth-round pick, bringing back a player they drafted in 2016 and traded away in 2020. The move addresses a pass rush that has struggled to generate pressure and has been hit by injuries, adding a veteran who has recorded four sacks this season. Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young said a healthy defensive front featuring Buckner, Osa Odighizuwa and Nick Bosa could become one of the NFL’s best and a major challenge for opposing quarterbacks. Young also said the trade was important for the team’s prospects and emotionally meaningful to 49ers fans.
