Cowboys' Jones Says Money Never Stopped Coach Hiring
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones pushed back against criticism that he will not pay top dollar for a head coach, saying money has never stopped him from pursuing someone he wanted and that he has tried to lure successful coaches from other teams. His defense followed remarks that there is “zero correlation” between a coach’s salary and winning, which drew criticism amid the Cowboys’ long Super Bowl and conference-title drought. Jones also pointed to his oil-well investments as evidence that he can afford high coaching salaries, though Brian Schottenheimer, hired in 2025, is believed to be among the league’s lower-paid head coaches. Critics have questioned the hiring process, including Dallas’s decision not to interview some highly sought-after candidates.
