Bears Honor Mike Ditka at Soldier Field
The Chicago Bears honored Mike Ditka at their first home game since his death on Oct. 9 at age 86, facing the New England Patriots, whom they defeated in Super Bowl XX under his leadership. Tributes included No. 89 jersey patches, an on-field stencil, a Pro Football Hall of Fame display, Ditka-themed flags, a moment of silence and fake mustaches for fans; the first 10,000 attendees received sweater-inspired knit headbands. Ditka was a Hall of Fame tight end and coached Chicago to its only Super Bowl championship, leaving a legacy closely associated with the team and city.
